Legacy of an Angel

feature photo

Being a Nobel-Prize-winning Guatemalan novelist and diplomat, Miguel Angel Asturias made a big contribution to establish Latin American’s literature and promote the importance of native cultures, especially those of his beloved country.

Asturias is not only remembered as a man who strongly believed in the abilities of indigenous culture in Guatemala but also as an angel who gave encouragement and support to those who were persecuted.

Considering his immense involvement in the country, Guatemala established an award, the Miguel Angel Asturias Order, in his name. Furthermore, Guatemala’s national theater and the country’s most distinguished literary prize were also named in his honor.
